: Reinforcing its commitment to cancer awareness, prevention and sustainable healthcare, Fortis Hospital, Mall Road, Ludhiana, organised a tree plantation drive at Bharat Nagar Chowk on the occasion of World Cancer Day. The event was organised on the theme “Seeds of Hope for a Cancer-Free Tomorrow,” symbolising the need to nurture life, protect environment and spread awareness about preventive healthcare. The drive focused on building healthier environment, promoting ecological balance and reducing long-term disease burden.”

The plantation drive aimed to highlight the strong link between environmental well-being and public health, particularly in the context of rising cancer incidence linked to air pollution, environmental toxins, and lifestyle factors. Trees play a crucial role in improving air quality, reducing exposure to harmful pollutants, and creating healthier living spaces, factors that contribute significantly to cancer prevention and overall well-being.

Emphasising on Fortis’ holistic approach towards preventive healthcare, Gurdarshan Singh Mangat, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Mall Road Ludhiana, said, “Such initiatives reflect Fortis hospital’s social responsibility which goes beyond clinical care. By promoting environmental sustainability alongside cancer awareness, we aim to encourage healthier lifestyles and create a safer, cleaner future for the next generation.”

Doctors from the Oncology Department, including Dr Davinder Paul, Additional Director, Medical Oncology; and Dr Anish Bhatia, Consultant, Surgical Oncology, also highlighted the importance of early detection, lifestyle modification and community awareness in the fight against cancer. They highlighted that preventive measures, such as avoiding tobacco, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, undergoing regular screenings, and living in cleaner environments—can significantly lower cancer incidence and improve long-term outcomes.

Several doctors, staff members and volunteers were dressed in purple colour to symbolize solidarity in the fight against cancer. They also took a pledge while reinforcing their commitment towards a healthier, cancer-free tomorrow. Through this initiative, Fortis Ludhiana continues to strengthen its mission of combining medical excellence with social responsibility.
